Old School House, luxury self catering, dog friendly cottage in the Yorkshire Dales

Built in 1875, this beautiful York stone Victorian property, previously the village school, has been sympathetically converted into an idyllic rural retreat. Sat on the village green in the picturesque village of Bainbridge just a 10 minute drive from Hawes, the Old School House is the perfect destination for a getaway with family and friends and ideally placed for exploring all that the Yorkshire Dales has to offer.

The house was the village school until the new primary school was built in the 1970s, following this it was converted into a residential dwelling. Since June 2021, Sarah & Graham have been lovingly renovating the house into a welcoming, stylish home from home providing everything you need for a relaxing break.

The Old School House has 4 bedrooms and can accommodate up to 7 guests and 2 dogs

On arrival at the property you are immediately charmed by the traditional school building perched on the village green with the old school bell still in place and the plaque showing the year it was built. Walking through the original school door you enter the boot room a great space for storing all your outdoor gear. There is a handy pew for those of us that need to sit down to take our shoes off! And a traditional column radiator perfectly positioned under the coat hooks to help dry out after a wet day. There is also a WC just off the boot room.

Moving through the door you enter the inner hall, from this room you have the kitchen with glorious views over the village green and fells beyond. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need to serve up a home cooked meal. Although if you didn't want to cook there is the Cornmill tearoom, Rose & Crown village pub and Yorebridge House fine dining restaurant within a few minutes walk from the house

Next you enter the living & dining room, the crowning glory of the Old School House with the solid oak parque floor, large Victorian windows, traditional column radiators and wood burning stove. The dining area is a large oak table with seating for 8, great for gathering everyone around and planning the days activities over a delicious Yorkshire breakfast. The living area is cosy and inviting with big comfy sofas and soft throws and is perfect for relaxing after a day in the dales.

The final room on the ground floor is a large light filled bedroom with Kingsize bed and ensuite shower room

Upstairs there are three further bedrooms; a pretty single with lovely views across the village green, a twin room with 2 single beds and low beams adding to the character and a large spacious bedroom with Kingsize bed. A sumptuous family bathroom with bath and shower over completes the upstairs. With comfy beds, luxuriously soft bedding and big fluffy towels you can't help but feel rested and relaxed ready for the next days adventure.

Outside at the back of the house there is a pretty walled courtyard with dining table & chairs and a BBQ perfect for a relaxing alfresco evening. Through the front door is the village green, an open space to use whether for a game of football or a picnic with the view of the fells all around. The village also has a childrens play area and there are numerous beautiful walks from the doorstep.
